Texas Historical Foundation announces grant.

The Texas Historical Foundation has awarded a $5,000 grant in support of The Wittliff Collections new book project. Rivers of Texas: A Literary Companion will showcase the best writing on Texas rivers and waterways from a number of the state’s most important writers. The elegantly designed, but slim and portable anthology will feature excerpts from full-length books, classic magazine articles, and selected poetry and historical views. Rivers of Texas will also include selections from Texas songwriters as well as photography of the state’s iconic waterways.

The book will be edited by The Wittliff’s highly experienced literary curator, Steve Davis, a PEN USA-winning author and past president of the Texas Institute of Letters. Texas A&M Press will publish the book, projected for publication in 2021.

“We are grateful to the Texas Historical Foundation for supporting this important new book project,” said Dr. David Coleman, director of The Wittliff Collections. “The foundation has helped fund nearly $2 million in worthwhile causes related to preserving and sharing the heritage of Texas, and we are proud to be among their partner projects.”

In 2018, the Susan Vaughan Foundation generously awarded a $25,000 grant in support of Rivers of Texas: A Literary Companion, and the Jacob and Terese Hershey Foundation supported the project with a $10,000 grant.
