True West (1980) is among Sam Shepard's most popular plays. This story about two brothers was written while Shepard and Johnny Dark were roommates. Shepard refers to Dark in the correspondence as the brother he never had. In the photo at center, actors John Malkovich and Gary Sinise portray the brothers in a television adaptation of the play.
