Biographical Sketch
Miriam Sagan, born in Manhattan, holds a B.A. with honors from Harvard University and an M.A. in Creative Writing from Boston University. Though Sagan is the author of over twenty books, she has also served as a memoirist, reviewer, essayist, teacher, and editor. Some of her works include Searching for a Mustard Seed: A Young Widow’s Unconventional Story, Rag Trade, The Art of Love, True Body, and Coastal Lives. Sagan, growing up in the 1960’s, was strongly influenced by the issue of feminism. She is also greatly inspired by nature and is currently involved in National Parks residencies.
Having taught in many different institutions across the United States, Sagan currently directs Santa Fe Community College’s creative writing program, in which she was the founder. She also serves as the advisor of the Santa Fe Literary Review put out by the college. Sagan is the recipient of a grant from The Barbara Deming Foundation/Money for Women and a Lannan Foundation Marfa Residency. She currently resides with husband Richard Feldman and daughter Isabel.

The Miriam Sagan collection consists of nine series: Personal Papers, Writings by Sagan, Drafts, Writings Affiliated with Sagan, Reviews of Sagan’s Works, Writings by Others, Audiovisuals, Visuals, and Journals [Restricted]. Miriam Sagan’s resume, letters of correspondence, notebooks, sketchbooks, publication information, awards and honors, books/juvenile books, zines, collections, journals, introductions, reviews, articles, and poem clippings, as well as photos and others’ reviews of the author’s works are included.
The collection is contained in thirty-one boxes, and written pieces range from the year 1976 to 2010. Folders with Sagan’s notebooks, sketchbooks, and awards/honors are organized in chronological order. All books, short stories, articles, journals, and poems are arranged according to the first letter of the title.
